Reuters: UK GAS-Prompt prices edge up on Nord Stream maintenance

British wholesale natural gas prices edged up on Tuesday morning as a major route of gas from Russia to Germany began maintenance but they remained near three-year lows as a result of weak demand.

Gas prices for delivery within the day were trading at 38.15 pence per therm at 0908 GMT, up 0.40 pence since last settling, and prices for delivery on Wednesday were up 0.45 pence at 38.30 pence a therm.

"The system is fairly balanced today but there is maintenance on Nord Stream and that's helped give prompt prices a little lift this morning," a gas trader said.

Nord Stream, the world's longest subsea natural gas pipeline, transports gas from Russia to Germany and started an 11-day maintenance period on Tuesday which will end on July 4, pipeline operator Nord Stream AG said.
