NRCU: Ukraine can be fully provided with domestic gas by 2035 - forecast
Ukraine will be able to fully cover its needs with domestic gas by 2035 at the expense of unconventional gas sources (methane, gas of compacted rocks, shale gas, and gas hydrates), Volodymyr Benko, the director of the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources said during hearings on prospects and challenges of shale gas extraction in Ukraine.
According to the forecast, volumes of total gas production in 2030 are forecasted at 47 billion cu m, including methane, gas of compacted rocks, and shale gas. In 2035, gas production will amount to 60 billion cu m. “This is roughly Ukraine’s need of gas,” Benko noted. Only one third of this volume will be covered by traditional gas, while the rest will be provided from unconventional sources. MORE
