Ukrinform: Higher gas prices for population to reduce gas imports - Naftogaz

The CEO of Ukraine's Naftogaz believes that the rise in gas prices for the population will allow reducing gas imports in future.

Andriy Kobolev pointed to an increase in domestic gas production in Ukraine and energy efficiency and conservation as keys to this achieving this goal.

"70 per cent of the rent, which was set on gas production for Ukrainian manufacturer is exactly the resource that the government is using for the subsidies ... If these subsidies are smaller, the rest of this resource can be used in two directions: either for Ukrainian gas production increase or improving energy efficiency," Kobolev said during an interview ICTV Ukrainian TV channel, as reported by Ukrinform.
