Ukraine Invites Bids for Gas Imports
Naftogaz has invited gas suppliers to prequalify for delivering EU gas supplies to Ukraine, the state company said on January 29. It said it would use €80.4mn ($97mn) in funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to cover the purchases.
The tender is for supplies between February 15 and December 31 2022, Naftogaz said. Suppliers must send in their offers by February 11. Naftogaz secured the EBRD funds through a 2019 Eurobond sale.
Ukraine stopped buying gas directly from Russia in late 2015 and now relies on shipments from Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, which totalled almost 16bn m3 last year. Much of these supplies, though, originated from Siberia and would have flowed though Ukraine or Belarus.
