Ukraine Mulling Turkmen Gas Imports

Ukraine is thinking of importing about five billion cubic meters of natural gas from Turkmenistan.

News agency UNIAN has reported that Ukraine may help Turkmenistan in the implementation of infrastructure projects in exchange for gas.

Ukraine may provide help in infrastructure projects like East West gas pipeline and TAPI gas pipeline.

However, such an arrangement requires permission from Russia to use its pipelines, the report said. It was reported that Ukraine hopes for direct supplies of Turkmen gas.

Ukraine will likely import the gas through the gas pipeline Central Asia-Centre (CAC) pipeline which passes through the territories of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia and is controlled by the Russian company Gazprom.
