Platts: Ukraine seeks key information from Gazprom to test gas backhauling

Ukraine on Tuesday officially asked Gazprom to provide "shipper code pairs," pieces of information that may allow the country to significantly increase imports of European gas via Hungary, a senior official said.

Ihor Prokopiv, the head of state-owned gas shipping company UkrTransGaz, said the move is part of a test to begin "virtual reverse" of European gas, also known as backhauling.

"We decided to run the test," Prokopiv told reporters. "So, we'll know tomorrow or the day after tomorrow whether they are going to reply or not."
