Ukraine’s PM Meets Polish Foreign Minister

Ukraine continues its attempt to strengthen its ties with Eastern Europe in order to promote a wider support from Brussels. This is particularly relevant in a moment Brussels is called to decide on the successor to Catherine Ashton as the EU's foreign policy chief.

‘Arseniy Yatsenyuk highly assessed the principled position of Poland concerning the situation in the East, as well as the Polish Government's intention to expand technical and expert assistance to Ukraine. The Prime Minister noted the importance of joint and coordinated response of the European Union to the escalation of violence by Russian-backed rebels,’ reads a note released by the Ukrainian government, after the meeting of PM Arseniy Yatsenyuk and rising star Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.

Sikorski is one of the strongest contenders to replace Ashton.

Meanwhile, the situation on the border between Russia and Ukraine remains tense.

‘During last 24 hours, border guard units were fired about 10 times with multiple launch rocket systems "Grad" and mortars…The Russian Federation continues pulling in its troops to the state border of Ukraine. Moreover, unmanned aerial vehicles are used so as to explore the positions of border guards as well as ATO forces,’ reads a separate note released on Wednesday
