Ukraine Urges UN Security Council's Intervention
Ukraine urged to summon the UN Security Council and to freeze all Russian assets ‘until the troops are withdrawn from Ukraine.’
‘One of the probable components to deter Russian aggression must be considering of an opportunity to freeze all assets of Russia and stop all banking transactions of the Russian Federation with the EU, the U.S.A. and G7 states until the Russian military equipment, machinery and agents are withdrawn from Ukraine,’ reads a note released on Thursday, reporting the comments of Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
Yatsenyuk said that the country can cope with ‘mercenaries’ paid by Moscow, but it would have problems to face Russian army and the weapons sold by Europeans to Moscow.
“In the current situation, one of the probable components to deter Russian aggression must be considering of an opportunity to freeze all assets of Russia and stop all banking transactions of the Russian Federation with the countries of the European Union, the United States and the G7. To freeze Russian assets and finances until the moment Russia withdraws its military equipment, machinery and agents,” Yatsenyuk added.
In this context, also countries traditionally cooperating with Russia are voicing concerns about Russian military presence in Ukraine. Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz wrote a tweet saying that “Russia must respect territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
Meanwhile, Ukrtransgas completed the automation of its UGS’ system. From Thursday, it will be able to provide daily information about the available amount of natural gas in Ukraine’s underground storage facilities.
‘Ukraine was the first country that, despite not being a member of the EU, joined the daily system transparent display data about the underground gas storage,’ reads a statement released by the Ukrainian company on Thursday.
