Unconventional Hydrocarbons Not a Panacea, Says French Think Tank
Unconventional hydrocarbon will not save Europe given the outstanding differences with the United States in terms of demography and institutional framework, read a report by the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI).
‘There are a number of reasons to suggest that the EU will not reproduce the scale of the US shale gas revolution,’ reads a note released by the French think tank, a Sciences Po partner.
At the same time, the report about the repeatability and the macroeconomic consequences of American boom claims that the positive consequences of shale gas have been overstated.
‘Our analysis suggests that even for the US, the unconventional oil and gas revolution has not been a panacea for the US economy, manufacturing competitiveness and household purchasing power, nor for its long term energy and climate policy aims,’ reads the analysis carried out by Thomas Spencer, Oliver Sartor and Mathilde Mathieu.
