Uniper Gets EU Funds for LNG Filling Stations

Uniper-owned Liqvis, a Germany-based gas for transport distributor, is to receive up to 9.6mn euros of EU funding to build filling stations.

Liqvis is to be funded in the future by the EU program "Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Transport", for the company's LNG4Trucks Project. The up to 9.6mn euro grants commitment is to help fund 14 more LNG fueling stations for trucks. It will cover half the cost of the facilities, with Liqvis funding the other half.

Liqvis plans to operate LNG fueling stations at strategic locations with particularly high commercial traffic. Eight new fueling stations are planned by 2019 at central locations in Germany such as Hannover, Cologne and Munich, while Belgium and France will each get three new fueling stations to provide LNG. At least one is already open on the outskirts of Berlin.

Earlier this week Eni said it would pay Snam to build additional compressed natural gas filling pumps at Eni filling stations in Italy, a country already with more than 1mn vehicles fuelled by CNG.
