US-based Range Resources in pursuit of RSG
Commitment to a pilot project for responsibly sourced natural gas (RSG) is emblematic of Range Resource's pursuit of cleaner energy options, the company said June 15.
US-based Range added its name to the growing number of energy companies teaming up with Project Canary, which is working through a pilot program to help the companies involved with their efforts to voluntarily reduce methane emissions from the natural gas sector to 1% or less within the next four years. Project Canary, through the programme, will certify production from Range as RSG.
Working in coordination with an unnamed European multinational energy company that committed to buying Range’s RSG, the company said it was utilising Project Canary’s monitoring technology at two pad locations in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania is home to the Appalachia shale basin, one of the nation’s top natural gas producers. Range noted that Appalachia producers already have the lowest CO2 intensity of any other US shale basin.
“Range has set ambitious emissions reduction goals including a target of net zero GHG emissions by 2025, demonstrating our focus on continuing to reduce our environmental and operating footprint,” CEO Jeff Ventura said. “This partnership (with Project Canary) aligns with our long-standing commitment to class-leading environmental practices and enhances our commitment to supplying clean energy to help power our modern world.”
Elsewhere, Range said its board of directors formed a new environmental social government (ESG) and safety committee, with independent director Margaret Dorman at the helm.
“We will continue to work with the management team to identify opportunities that align with our commitments to provide clean energy and deliver sustainable value to our shareholders,” Dorman said.
