US, Canadian rigs counts move higher: Baker Hughes
US upstream services company Baker Hughes reported August 6 that gains in both US and Canadian activity lifted the North American rig count higher for the week.
The US and Canadian rig counts both increased by three for the week ending August 6 to put the total North American rig count at 647, with US activity accounting for 75% of the total.

Gains and losses in the US were spread out over the various inland basins, though the increase in rig activity came primarily from work in oil. There was no change in natural gas activity from last week, while Baker Hughes listed one additional rig categorised as “miscellaneous.”
By state, Wyoming and Oklahoma posted increases, while California and Texas each lost rigs. The rest were static. For all US activity, 78% of the upstream work focused on oil, with the rest in natural gas.
Using data provided by Enverus, Baker Hughes put the total Canadian rig count at 156 (61% active in oil drilling), with two more rigs in oil and one more in natural gas. All of the increases were in Alberta.
