US Ferc Approves Transco’s Expansion

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved on November 21 Transco’s $167mn Gulf Connector Expansion Project that will facilitate 475mn ft3/day of firm service to a pair of LNG export terminals in Texas.

The project will be completed in two phases, with phase 1 expected to be in service by September 2018 and phase 2 scheduled for completion in January 2019.

Phase 1 will provide 75mn ft³/day of firm service to Freeport LNG’s 15mn metric tons/year LNG terminal under construction on Quintana Island, Texas. It involves a new 1,500 horsepower compressor station in Wharton County, Texas and piping and valve modifications at existing Compressor Station 40 in Hardin County, Texas to allow for bi-directional compression.

Phase 2 will provide 400mn ft³/day of firm service to Cheniere Energy’s 22.5mn mt/year Corpus Christi export terminal on Corpus Christi Bay in south Texas. It involves a new 7,800 horsepower compressor station in San Patricio County, Texas; a new 21,600 horsepower compressor station in Victoria County, Texas; a 500mn ft³/day interconnection with the Cheniere Pipeline in San Patricio County and piping and valve modifications at existing Compressor Station 30 in Wharton County to allow for bi-directional compression.
