US LNG exports decline for second straight week: EIA

US exports of LNG declined for the second week in a row, falling some 4bn ft3/d from the previous seven days, the government reported July 15.

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that 71bn ft3/d worth of natural gas in super-cooled LNG form left export terminals the week of July 8-14, down about 9% from the previous seven-day period.

Exports left on 20 vessels laden with LNG during the week. Seven of those left from the Sabine Pass terminal and three departed from Cameron, both in Louisiana. From Texas, four each left from the export facilities at Corpus Christi and Freeport. One each left from the Cove Point terminal off Maryland and the Elba Island terminal off Georgia.

EIA reported that one of the trains at Cameron was closed because of maintenance. As such, gas deliveries to Cameron declined from 1.9bn ft3/d from July 1-11 to 1.3bn ft3/d on July 12. A return to service, however, put feed gas deliveries back at early-July levels.

For June, EIA noted that natural gas exports to Mexico reached an all-time high as warmer temperatures led to an increase in consumer demand. Natural gas used in the Mexican power sector averaged 4.9bn ft3/d in June, compared with a two-year average of 4.5bn ft3/d for the month.

Dry natural gas production, meanwhile, increased 1.1% from the seven-day period ending July 14. A drilling productivity report for the month estimates that total US natural gas production settles at 85.4bn ft3/d this month and increases to 85.5bn ft3/d on average for August.
