US rig count down for first time in seven weeks
US oilfield services provider Baker Hughes said December 9 its latest survey of active rigs showed the first week-over-week decline since late October, as the number of working rigs fell to 780 from 784 in the week ended December 2.
It was the first drop since the week ended October 28, when the count slipped to 768 from 771 the previous week.

Rigs drilling for oil slipped to 625 from 627 last week, while gas-directed rigs fell to 153 from 155. A year ago there were 576 rigs active in the US onshore, 471 drilling for oil and 105 drilling for gas.
In Canada, the active rig count increased to 202 from 195 last week, with gas rigs up four, to 71, and oil rigs up three, to 131. A year ago, 177 rigs were active in Canada – 110 drilling for oil and 67 drilling for gas.
