The Baltic Course: US senator supports shale gas import by Lithuania
Possible shale gas import by Lithuania through the Liquefied Natural Gas terminal which is currently under construction was discussed at the meeting between President Dalia Grybauskaite and the US Congress delegation, reports LETA/ELTA.
Chief Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy, Jovita Neliupsiene, said that Democratic Senator Bill Nelson, member of the Committees on Armed Services, Budget, Commerce and Finance, welcomed the idea of shale gas import from the United States.
In September, during the autumn session, the US Congress will consider providing USD 1 billion financial support to augment defensive capabilities in Europe. The US will also decide on shale gas export to Europe.
According to the senator, various options are being considered, how to determine the region shale gas will be exported to or whether to export only to NATO countries.
