Uzbek-focused Epsilon Makes 6 Gas Finds in 2019
US-registered Epsilon Development discovered six new gas fields in Uzbekistan last year and has started negotiations on developing them, Uzbek media reported March 19.
Epsilon works as a contractor at the Kultak-Kamashinsky, Mubarek, Surkhan, Ashibulak, Koskuduk and West Ferghana investment blocks. It is expected to form a 50:50 partnership with state-owned Uzbekneftgaz to operate the discoveries if they move to the development phase.
The company announced in early 2019 it would invest $2bn in the projects. It is set to play a key role in the government's plan to step up exploration activity and add 361bn m3 to Uzbekistan's recoverable gas reserves by 2026. Epsilon is expected to account for 194bn m3 of these resources.
Epsilon specialises in developing hard-to-recover gas reserves with higher risks, according to its website. The company has also hired overseas contractors to assist in its work, including US services giant Schlumberger.
Epsilon announced the discovery of the Talimarjan field in March last year, after flowing 0.2mn m3/d flow from a single well. It found two more fields, Bohoriston and Karakara, in August, with wells that flowed 0.5mn m3 and 0.1mn m3/d respectively.
In September it identified the Mirbaraka and Garbiy Ernazar fields, and the following month it discovered a new oil and gas condensate field.
