Uzbekistan agrees energy pact with Siemens
Uzbekistan's energy ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Germany's Siemens on developing a new 1,300-1,600-MW thermal power plant (TPP) in the Central Asian state as well as on collaboration in other areas of energy.
The MoU envisages cooperation in the construction of new generating facilities, the introduction of energy-efficient technologies, hydrogen energy and the training of personal. The two sides have also agreed a roadmap for future joint projects, including for introducing cogeneration technologies on a public-private partnership basis, building the TPP, modernising the Hajabad compressor station and creating innovative training centres.
A formal working group to discuss this collaboration will be set up by the end of the month, and a site for the TPP will be determined in May. Agreements for developing hydrogen and renewable energy are expected to be reached by the summer.
