Vattenfall Starts Gas Trading in Poland
Sweden’s Vattenfall expanded its business in Central Eastern Europe. It started gas trading in Poland, expecting the market to grow quickly in the coming years
"We expect a positive development of the Polish gas market and want to offer a better choice for big and midsize customers," Frank van Doorn, the head of Gas Trading at Vattenfall said in a statement.
In October the Warsaw-based power exchange POLPX promoted the liquidity of the exchange market, enabling auction-based trading in gas forward instruments on the Commodity Forward Instruments Market.
Vattenfall plans to trade all gas products on the POLPX gas exchange. It also plans to be active in the over-the-counter market.
Poland started the gas exchange at the end of 2012 to comply with European Union requirements to liberalize its gas market, which is dominated by state-controlled monopoly PGNiG.
