Verdalia Bioenergy to acquire four biomethane projects in Italy

European biomethane company Verdalia Bioenergy has signed an agreement with Healthy Business Advisory to acquire four biomethane projects in Italy, it said on July 30.

Located in Piedmont and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, these new projects follow Verdalia's recent acquisition of seven operational plants in the province of Brescia. The four new projects will benefit from the incentive programme established by the ministerial decree in September 2022. They are projected to have a combined production capacity of approximately 230 GWh/year of biomethane, derived from processing 262,000 tonnes/year of animal and vegetable biomass.

One of the new plants is expected to become operational in the last quarter of 2025, with the remaining three scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter of 2026.

Verdalia Bioenergy, launched in February 2023 and supported by Goldman Sachs Asset Management's infrastructure business, aims to invest at least €1bn in the development, acquisition, and operation of biomethane production plants in Europe by 2026.

The company currently holds a portfolio of operational plants in Italy and has a pipeline of mid-to-late-stage development projects in Spain and Italy, with a projected volume of over 2.5 TWh/year of biomethane.
