Virgin Islands port begins ship-to-ship LNG transfers

Ocean Point Terminals in St Croix, US Virgin Islands, said June 23 it had begun ship-to-ship LNG transfers from temporary facilities on its Dock 8 ahead of the start of a permanent operation on its Dock 6 later this year.

The first LNG carrier arrived at Ocean Point last week, and has begun transferring LNG to smaller shuttle tankers, which will distribute the fuel across the Atlantic region.

“The start-up of this project will provide broad benefits to St Croix and the wider region,” Ocean Point CEO Todd Dillabough said. “Importantly, this project significantly increases access to affordable, reliable, clean LNG fuel in the region to accelerate the regional energy transition.”

New Fortress Energy worked with Ocean Point to develop the infrastructure supporting the transfer operation.
