VPI awards Worley engineering contract for Humber zero carbon capture project

UK and Ireland power company VPI has awarded Australian engineering company Worley an engineering services agreement (ESA) to support the Humber zero carbon capture project, Worley announced on July 24.

The project is anticipated to be one of the world’s largest carbon capture projects for a combined heat and power plant, according to Worley. Once completed, the project is expected to capture up to 3.3mn tonnes/year of carbon dioxide.

Under the ESA, Worley will provide engineering services for the EPC development phase of the Humber project. This agreement follows Worley’s completion of the front-end engineering design study in 2023. The EPC development phase will prepare for the development, construction, and delivery of retrofitted post-combustion carbon capture units to VPI’s 1.2 GW combined heat and power plant in Immingham.

The EPC phase is expected to follow the completion of the EPC development phase, subject to regulatory approval and final investment decision.
