Wartsila Wins Contracts at LatAm Power Plants

Finland's Wartsila has secured engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts worth €190mn ($207mn) for two gas-fired power plants in Latin America, it announced on April 15.

The orders, placed in March, will see Wartsila provide 11 50SG gas engines for each plant. The two stations will have a combined output of 400 MW. Wartsila told NGW it could not disclose their location, due to customer confidentiality.

The stations are slated to go online at the end of 2021, and their electricity will be fed into the national grid on a flexible baseload basis. Wartsila has also been awarded contracts to operate and maintain the plants over a 10-year period. The plants can also run on  LPG, synthetic fuels and various bio-gas fuels.
