Finnish technology firm Wartsila said May 22 it has passed the milestone of booking the 100th order for one of its on-ship fuel gas supply systems (see banner photo above, courtesy of the company).

Two new shuttle tankers being built for Singapore-based AET Tankers will feature Wartsila's dual-fuel auxiliary engines running primarily on LNG fuel, and fitted with LNGPac units. This contract, worth €30mn ($40mn) and actually signed and announced in March 2018, brought the total number of orders received for this innovative system to 100, the Finnish firm now says.

The first LNGPac installation was for the chemical tanker ‘Bit Viking’ owned by Swedish operator Tarbit which was converted to LNG fuel operation in 2011. Since then, the LNGPac has been installed on 12 or more different types of vessel, including passenger ferries, tugs, dredgers and offshore vessels.
