Water UK Opens Door to Cooperation on Shale Explorations
Water UK, which represents the water industry, said it will contribute to find solutions to minimise the impact of onshore oil and gas development in the UK.
‘Water UK and UKOOG (UK Onshore Operators Group) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which ensures their respective members will cooperate throughout the shale gas exploration and extraction process,’ reads a note released on Wednesday.
Water UK will cooperate with UKOOG, the onshore oil and gas industry’s representative body, to identify and resolve risks around water and waste water, with a focus on the effects on the quality and the quantity of local water resources.
“This agreement with Water UK should give reassurance to local communities that the development of shale gas in the UK can proceed with minimal impact upon the local water and waste services,” Ken Cronin, chief executive of UKOOG, said.
