West Java Power Plant Starts Up
Japan’s Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has started up a 300-MW gas-fired power plant in West Java.
Unit 1 went into operation as a simple gas turbine system, demonstrating steady progress of the Jawa-2 Project being developed by PLN (Persero), Indonesia's state-owned electricity provider.
Under this project, at the port city of Tanjung Priok 10 km northeast of Jakarta, PLN plans to construct an 880-MW plant, comprising two gas turbine combined-cycle (CCGT) units. Unit 2 will also start up initially as a simple gas turbine, before switching to CCGT operation in 2019.
It is part of the government’s 35-GW power expansion programme to meet the country's rapidly increasing demand for electric power along with the economic growth, said MHPS.
