Wheatstone LNG First Shipment Now Expected Mid-2017

First LNG from the Chevron operated Wheatstone project is now expected by mid-2017, Woodside said Monday.

Woodside advises that impairments foreshadowed in the company’s fourth quarter report released on 21 January 2016 took into account the potential for this revised schedule for the Wheatstone onshore plant,” the company stated.

The project was expected to start around end-2016.

The Julimar project, which will supply gas to the Wheatstone onshore plant, remains on schedule and on budget. Woodside has a 65 percent equity interest in the Julimar Project and is operator.

Delivery commitments under the applicable LNG sales agreements can be met under the revised schedule.

The Wheatstone project will include an onshore facility located at Ashburton North Strategic Industrial Area (ANSIA), 12 kilometres west of Onslow in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. The foundation project includes two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and a domestic gas plant.

The project is a joint venture between Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (64.14 percent), Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) (13.4 percent), Woodside Petroleum Limited  (13 percent), and Kyushu Electric Power Company (1.46 percent), together with PE Wheatstone Pty Ltd, part owned by TEPCO (8 percent).
