Wintershall led Group Makes Discovery

A group led by Wintershall has announced a gas-condensate discovery at the Rodriguez license in the Norwegian Sea, half way up Norway’s western coast.

Results from the first exploration well in PL475 (6407/1-6S), which began drilling in December, have confirmed a significant gas condensate discovery in the Lower Cretaceous interval. The well is interpreted as having penetrated an estimated 9 m of net gas-condensate pay at the edge of the reservoir.

Wintershall’s preliminary volumetric estimate of the size of the discovery is between 19 million and 126 million bbl of oil equivalent recoverable. Appraisal is needed to establish size and lateral extent.

Operator Wintershall holds a 50-percent interest in PL475, while Faroe Petroleum has a 30-percent interest with Centrica Resources holding the remaining 20 percent.
