Woodfibre LNG names new CEO
Woodfibre LNG, part of the Pacific Energy Corporation (Canada) group of companies, said November 8 it had named Luke Schauerte as its new CEO, effective from November 4.
Christine Kennedy will remain as president of Woodfibre LNG, a role she has filled since November 2021.
Schauerte comes to Woodfibre LNG from LNG Canada, where he was vice president, asset, charged with guiding the construction and start-up of the 14mn tonnes/year facility, Canada’s first world-scale natural gas liquefaction and export terminal. Prior to LNG Canada, Schauerte served in a range of leadership roles over 20 years with Shell, both in Canada and internationally.
“As the Woodfibre LNG project continues to advance, we are excited to have Luke join our team,” said Pacific Energy President Ratnesh Bedi said. “His proven track-record for unlocking the full potential of large-scale assets is instrumental in advancing Canada’s leadership in delivering sustainably produced energy to the world.”
In his roles with Shell, Schauerte was instrumental in leading transformational change not only at LNG Canada but also at Shell’s Scotford complex near Edmonton.
“Woodfibre LNG is demonstrating exceptional industry leadership through its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to its innovative efforts in promoting cultural and gender safety,” Schauerte said. “I’m excited to help lead a safe, sustainable and socially conscious operation that is positioned to generate long-term benefits including economic reconciliation across a diverse range of stakeholders.”
The 2.1mn tonnes/year Woodfibre LNG facility began construction in September 2023 and is expected to be complete in 2027.
