China to Soon Release Energy Plan for 2016-2020

China is expected to soon release a development plan for the energy industry during the 13th five-year plan period (2016-2020), Xinhua Finance reported Wednesday.

National Energy Administration (NEA) is expected to focus on the objective of building a clean, low-carbon, secure and efficient modern energy system, an official said. The plan will focus on tasks of the supply-side structural reform and come up with targeted measures.

The target is to keep coal consumption under 5 billion metric tons, bring its share in energy mix to about 58%. Share of non-fossil energy is likely to be 15%.

In coming five years, China will firstly adjust the inventory, optimize the increment and actively resolve excessive capacities in the energy industry. Under such circumstances, hydropower and nuclear power will become a bright spot with a large-scale development, Xinhua Finance reported.
