Aker wins umbilicals contract for Jansz-Io compression project
Aker Solutions has been awarded a contract from Chevron to provide the umbilicals for the Jansz-Io subsea gas compression development offshore Australia, it said on November 8.
The contract includes the delivery of engineering, design and manufacturing of a total of about 70 km of dynamic subsea umbilicals. The scope of work includes three subsea compressor umbilicals, two subsea pump umbilicals, as well as ancillary equipment and spares. The umbilicals will provide power from the platform to the subsea compressor and pump modules.

The Jansz-Io field is located around 200 km offshore the north-western coast of Australia, at water depths of approximately 1,400 m. The field is a part of the Chevron-operated Gorgon natural gas project, one of the world’s largest natural gas developments.
Chevron on July 1 said it will proceed with the approximately $4bn project. A modification of the existing Gorgon development, the project will involve the construction and installation of a 27,000 metric ton floating field control station, approximately 6,500 mt of subsea compression infrastructure and a 135 km submarine power cable linked to Barrow Island. Construction and installation activities are estimated to take approximately five years to complete.
Chevron Australia is the operator and a partner in the Gorgon joint venture. The Chevron-operated Gorgon project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, Osaka Gas, Tokyo Gas and Jera.
