Australia Minister Dismisses Farmers Fracking Concerns
The Mines Minister, Norman Moore believes farmers' fears about the environmental effects of fracking are unfounded, ABC News reported.
Several companies have begun fracking in the Mid-West and the Farmers’ Federation is concerned about the impact on aquifers.
Moore said that the government was absolutely fastidious in respect to the regulations and it has to ensure the casings that are used going through the aquifers are well and truly secure and don't affect the aquifer.
"In Western Australia we are looking for shale gas or tight gas which is 3000, 4000 metres underground, well away from any water aquifers and it's proven to be a very safe technology wherever it's been used."
