Baker Hughes, Woodside sign 10-year services agreement

Energy technology company Baker Hughes has entered into a new 10-year services frame agreement with Woodside Energy to support its LNG operations in Australia, it announced on June 28.

Under this multi-year agreement, Baker Hughes will provide spare parts and field service resources for onsite turbomachinery equipment maintenance and upgrades, equipment refurbishment, and advanced digital asset performance services.

In 2021, Baker Hughes was awarded the supply of gas turbine and compressor technology for Woodside Energy’s Pluto LNG Train 2 project in Western Australia, which supports the Scarborough offshore gas project. 

The final investment decision on the Scarborough project was made in November 2021, with the commencement of LNG cargo targeted for 2026. Work at the Pluto LNG facility is progressing with the ongoing arrival and installation of the Pluto Train 2 modules on-site in Karratha, Western Australia, according to Woodside. 

The Scarborough project, located approximately 375 km off the coast of Western Australia, includes the Scarborough joint venture, the Pluto Train 2 joint venture, and modifications to Pluto Train 1 to accommodate Scarborough gas. Gas from Scarborough will be processed at the Pluto LNG facility, where Woodside is currently constructing Pluto Train 2, which would have a capacity of about 5mn tonnes/year.

Most recently, in 2022, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on potential decarbonization solutions. The MoU aims to identify projects for potential collaboration between the two companies, including projects in Australia, Asia, and the US.
