Carbon Clean awards KBR design contract for FlagshipONE project
Carbon Clean, a carbon capture solutions provider, has awarded a contract to KBR for the detailed design of a carbon capture plant for Ørsted's FlagshipONE project in Sweden, it said on May 25.
Carbon Clean was previously awarded the contract for the full design and supply of the carbon capture plant and has now engaged KBR for the detailed design phase following the successful completion of the front end engineering design in 2021.
The plant will have the capacity to capture 70,000 metric tons/year of CO2 from a biomass-fired combined heat and power plant in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. The captured biogenic CO2 will be combined with renewable hydrogen in Ørsted's FlagshipONE plant to produce 50,000 mt/yr of eFuel, specifically eMethanol, for use in the shipping industry.
FlagshipONE will be Ørsted's first commercial-scale Power-to-X facility and Europe's largest production site for green eFuel when it begins operation in 2025, Carbon Clean said.
The original developer of FlagshipONE, Swedish company Liquid Wind, continues to work on developing a network of eFuel plants with long-term goals of establishing multiple facilities.
