Clean Energy Fuels opens new RNG station in New Jersey

California-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. on June 25 announced the opening of a new renewable natural gas (RNG) station in Carney’s Point, New Jersey.

The station is designed for heavy-duty trucks and other fleet vehicles, strategically located in the busy trucking corridor between Philadelphia and Wilmington, DE, near Interstate 295 and the New Jersey Turnpike. It is now part of Clean Energy’s fuelling network of over 600 stations in North America. The New Jersey station features two fast-fill dispenser lanes for easy in-and-out fueling of RNG.

Clean Energy is also investing in the production of RNG at dairy farms. Agriculture accounts for nearly 10% of US greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, while the transportation sector contributes another 28%, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Clean Energy asserts that RNG significantly lowers GHG emissions on a lifecycle basis compared to diesel. This reduction allows RNG to be one of the only transportation fuels to receive a negative carbon-intensity score from the California Air Resources Board, based on emissions reductions at both the source and the vehicle.
