Commonwealth LNG contracts Baker Hughes for gas turbine tech

US LNG developer Commonwealth LNG has contracted Baker Hughes for the supply of aeroderivative gas turbine technology for its proposed LNG facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, it said on August 21.

This collaboration is set to enhance the project's efficiency and environmental performance by utilising Baker Hughes' LM9000 aeroderivative gas turbine technology, known for its effectiveness in the 65+ MW power range.

The order for LM9000 equipment is expected to be confirmed in tandem with the financial closure of the Commonwealth LNG project, expected in the first quarter of 2024. Beyond turbine technology, this partnership encompasses various facets of the project, with Baker Hughes contributing compressor technology, spare parts, maintenance services, and the Cordant Asset Performance Management suite.

Commonwealth LNG recently announced the successful closure of capital investment from private funds managed by Kimmeridge Energy Management Company. This infusion of funds marks a significant milestone, meeting the required development funding for the 9.3mn tonnes/year LNG export facility.

Furthermore, Commonwealth LNG and Kimmeridge have laid the groundwork for a 20-year commitment agreement. Under this preliminary agreement, Commonwealth LNG will provide 2mn t/yr of LNG from the facility, along with the associated gas supply.
