Cormetech gets US DOE funding for CO2 capture
US environmental specialist Cormetech has confirmed its selection by the US Department of Energy (DOE) to develop and test new, lower-cost technology to capture CO2 from the flue gas of natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) power plants, which will enhance scalability, the company said on February 3.
The DOE announced $45mn in funding for 12 projects to advance point-source carbon capture and storage technologies that can capture at least 95% of CO2 emissions generated from natural gas power and industrial facilities that produce commodities like cement and steel.
Point-source carbon capture reduces CO2 emissions by filtering out CO2 and other gases from power plants or industrial facilities.
“Cormetech is very excited about this award, which will allow us to continue developing our CO2 capture technology for NGCC," CEO Mike Mattes said. "With Cormetech’s long history of technology leadership in emission controls, we are uniquely positioned to confirm the value proposition of our new lower-cost technology.”
The DOE originally announced the funding offer in October 2021.
