Cummins to power Gail’s green hydrogen project in India

Power solutions company Cummins will provide technology in collaboration with Tecnimont to build proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer for state-owned Gail at Vijaipur in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, Cummins India said on December 6.

Cummins will leverage its proprietary PEM electrolysis technology to manufacture electrolyzers for the Gail project. This project is anticipated to produce 4.3 metric tons/day of green hydrogen, which will be equivalent to around 10 MW of electrical power generation, it said.

Tecnimont, an engineering, procurement and construction firm, is the Indian subsidiary of Italy's Maire Tecnimont Group.

"The Gail green hydrogen production project based on our PEM electrolyzer technology is a first of its kind and will pave the way for many such projects in the future," said Ashwath Ram, managing director at Cummins India.

Cummins said it has supplied and commissioned more than 600 electrolyzers worldwide with PEM and alkaline technologies.
