Edison and Eni Developing Sicilian Offshore Project
Italy’s Edison announced this week that the development of gas reserves offshore Sicily has kicked off.
Alongside partner and operator Eni, which holds 60% of the Offshore Ibleo project, Edison said May 13 that gas reserves in the G.C1.AG concession should eventually produce around 1.5bn cm3/yr. First production is expected in the fourth quarter of 2021, and the pair is investing €700mn in developing the block.
The concession will be connected to the coast with direct access to the Gela refinery, thanks to an already existing landing place, Edison said in a statement. Once treated, the gas will be fully introduced into the national network.
Rome handed Offshore Ibleo the concession on the field, which sits off the coast of the provinces of Caltanissetta, Agrigento and Ragusa, in 2014. The licence covers an area of over 145km3 and is for a duration of 20 years.
