Egypt's Gas Exports Jump During Jan-May

Egypt’s exports of natural gas and its derivatives jumped by 8.9 percent during Jan-May to $964.4 million as compared with $885.7 million for the same period last year.

The monthly bulletin of economic and social indicators released by the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center showed a 1.59 percent decline in the production of natural gas from January to May, dropping from 19,591 tons in 2011 to 19,279 tons this year.

The bulletin also showed that domestic consumption of natural gas has increased during the same period by 6.89 percent, while electricity consumption went up 1.3 percent.

Exports of crude oil and petroleum products have dropped by 21.5 percent to $1.958 billion against $2.495 billion in 2011, while domestic consumption of petroleum products went up by 0.4 percent.
