Elengy Strike Ends
Workers at GDF Suez's three LNG terminals in France have returned to work following the cessation of a week-long strike action.
The workers from GDF's liquefied natural gas arm Elengy had moved to strike in a dispute about annual bonuses in light of GDF Suez's increased profits and increased LNG sales. As part of the strike action, the workers formed a blockade of the company's three LNG terminals, the Montoir-de-Bretagne, Fos-Tonkin and Fos-Cavaou terminals.
A number of LNG deliveries could not be brought to the terminals and had to be rerouted to other countries following the blockades, including the Qatari Al Gharrafa vessel, which had to be diverted to the the Algeciras Port in Spain.
However, yesterday the workers' union CGT said that the workers were ceasing the action following an agreement with the management of GDF Suez.
"We're restarting operations," head of CGT at Elengy Reda Saker told Reuters yesterday. "We will have better profit-sharing thanks to this new agreement."
The exact terms of the agreement are expected to be hashed out in the coming weeks.
Operations at the terminals are expected to begin again today, with a vessel due to be offloaded from the Fos-Cavaou terminal.
