Eni Enters Belgium Under Own Brand

Italian explorer and producer Eni has announced that it will begin to operate in the Belgian retail and business market under its own brand from next month with a view to supplying 1 million customers.

Eni, which is already supplying gas to 600,000 Belgian customers through Nuon Belgium and Distrigas, will begin instead selling under its own brand from the 1st of November. Distrigas, which Eni acquired in 2008, currently supplies to business customers in Belgium while Nuon Belgium, which Eni acquired at the beginning of this year, will both begin to supply under the Eni brand.

Eni says that, following the rebrand, it aims to increase its customer base in Belgium, seeking to become become the second largest gas company in the Belgian market. By 2016, the company aims to have a market share of 12 per cent, equating to approximately 1 million customers.

This is the second rebrand Eni has undertaken in the past month, following on the heels of a similar rebrand in France. From the 1st of October 2012, Eni has ceased trading in France under the name of Altergaz and has begun to trade under its own name.

Similar to its aims in Belgium, Eni is seeking to increase its customer base in France, with a target of half a million customers (around three times its current customer base) in France.
