EU Funds French LNG Project Study
The European Union is to co-finance a study analysing the feasibility of constructing an LNG bunkering station within port of Dunkirk in France.
The study was selected for funding under the 2011 TEN-T Annual Call.
Around €1.1 million will be spent on the study to analyse whether a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering station could be built within the port. The aim is for a station that could receive fuel directly from an adjacent LNG import terminal that is under construction.
LNG is rapidly emerging as a cheaper and more environmentally friendly fuel for the maritime sector, and its uptake is encouraged by the European Union.
