European Gas Flows at Folschviller-2
Australian-listed European Gas Limited has announced that it has successfully flowed CBM at its Folschviller-2 well in Lorraine, France.
The company says the Folschviller-2 well, the second of two appraisal wells drilled under the Bleue Lorraine and Bleue Lorraine Sud licences in 2011, has tested positively for gas flow.
The well is the first in Continental Europe to utilise a multilateral horizontal CBM well. The well did not require the use of hydraulic fracturing. This positive result, CEO of European Gas, Frédéric Briens said, is due to the techniques and equipment used in the multilateral horizontal drilling.
"Following the recent confirmation of our large gas resources, we now have a first operational assessment of the feasibility of producing gas at commercial rates without the use of hydraulic fracturing," he said. "This success is based on the use of horizontal drilling technology as well as the excellent work conducted by our operating team. "
Gas flow testing, which was evaluated independently by Beicip-Franlab (BF), was measured in the upper lateral drain, a drain with a length of around 200 metres.
European Gas says that BF's evaluation also confirmed the viability of the project commercially, as well as identifying some issues which will be addressed through a future drilling programme.
"The combination of our independently assessed gas resources and gas flow test puts our company in a very promising position to deliver a substantial value to our shareholders," Mr. Briens said. "We now focus on a drilling campaign that has been significantly encouraged with the results obtained in the Folschviller-2 well."
