France to give extra support for biogas projects: press

France has revised rules for biogas projects, adjusting tariffs for inflation and extending construction deadlines, Reuters reported on September 23.

France is the EU's biggest agricultural producer but its output of biogas, using crops and livestock manure as feedstock, has been relatively modest, with Reuters citing administrative obstructions and opposition to the environmental impact of projects.

The country has 920 biogas projects under development, according to official state, which could generate 18 TWh of energy combined, equivalent to 4% of national annual gas demand. Only 8 TWh of biogas projects are already in production.

Under a decree issued on September 23, biogas developers will get an extra 18 months to complete their projects, and will receive subsidised tariffs that take into account inflation.
