Galveston LNG Bunker Port joins SEA-LNG coalition
The Galveston LNG Bunker Port (GLBP) has become a member of the SEA-LNG coalition, SEA-LNG announced on February 21.
The GLBP project, announced in September 2023, is a joint venture between Seapath Group, a maritime subsidiary of Libra Group, and Pilot LNG, a Houston-based clean energy solutions company.
Positioned as the inaugural dedicated facility on the US Gulf Coast for fueling LNG-powered vessels, GLBP is slated to commence operations in late 2026.
Situated on Shoal Point in Texas City, within the greater Houston-Galveston port complex, GLBP's shore-based LNG liquefaction facility is aiming to address the demand for LNG as a marine fuel. The project envisions a two-train and two-tank facility, with an initial production capacity of 300,000 gallons/day of LNG.
The anticipated expansion, subject to a final investment decision by the second half of 2024, could see the facility producing up to 600,000 gallons/day.
GLBP's progress includes plans to submit necessary applications for federal and state permits for the small-scale LNG terminal dedicated to marine fuel in early 2024.
