Gazprom to Increase Investment in Kyrgyzstan Gas Transmission System
Gazprom will significantly increase the volume of investments in Kyrgyzstan's gas transmission system, the Russian firm said earlier this week.
Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom's Management Committee and Almazbek Atambayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic met at the Gazprom headquarters Tuesday.
The parties addressed the issues of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. The Russian energy major said that in 2015 it invested RUB 4.5 billion in improvement of Kyrgyzstan's gas transmission system (GTS).
“In 2016 it is planned to increase the volume of investments into the GTS of the Republic thrice. Currently Gazprom is also working on a program for heat supply to 15 cities of Kyrgyzstan,” Gazprom stated in a press note.
In addition, the meeting considered scaling up geological exploration activities in the Kugart and Eastern Mailu-Suu IV blocks.
Gazprom Kyrgyzstan, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom is an exclusive importer of natural gas to Kyrgyzstan and the owner of the domestic gas transmission and distribution systems.
According to preliminary data, Gazprom supplied some 300 million cubic meters of gas to Kyrgyzstan in 2015.
