Gladstone Port Exported 12mn mt LNG in 2015-2016

Gladstone Port Corporation (GPC) on October 4 said Port of Gladstone exported 12.2 million mt of LNG during the fiscal year 2015-2016 that ended on June 30, 2016 compared with 1.61mn mt during the last fiscal.

Three major LNG projects significantly ramped up their facilities during the year. With Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) shipping its first cargo in January this year, the three LNG projects on Curtis Island in Queensland, Australia became operational.  In November, Bechtel, which has constructed all the three plants, officially handed over operational control of the Queensland Curtis LNG plant to QGC, and in October the Santos GLNG project produced its first cargo. GLNG’s second train began production in May.

FY 2016-2017 is expected to see further growth in tonnage throughput, predominantly via the three LNG export facilities on Curtis Island and the export of coal via Wiggins Island Coal Terminal which completed its first full year of operation, GPC said, adding total annual LNG exports could touch 24mn mt. Revenue stood at record A$478.9mn (US$366mn) during the year, up 5.5% on year.

In August, monthly LNG exports from Queensland’s Gladstone Port topped 1.5mn mt for the first time. During the Jan-Aug period, total LNG exports from Gladstone were 10.89mn mt.
