Hegelmann buys LNG fuelled trucks
Hegelmann has purchased 150 Iveco S-Way LNG-powered trucks for its Indian transport and logistics trucking fleet in a bid to reduce carbon emissions, Iveco said July 14.
Hegelmann's existing fleet includes 20 LNG-powered Iveco trucks. By 2025, Hegelmann expects LNG to fuel at least 20% of its overall fleet, which currently includes around 4,000 vehicles.
Hegelmann has also purchased 10 CNG tractor units from Iveco's S-Way series. The manufacturer says its vehicles will allow Hegelmann to "achieve significant" carbon reductions within the next few years, and even says a "virtually carbon-neutral operation" can be achieved using S-Way units powered by bio-methane.
John Venstra, head of key accounts at Iveco, said: "The Hegelmann Group has experienced directly in their operations how the Iveco S-Way LNG trucks provide a viable solution for sustainable transport – so much so that, after their initial 20 units, they have now significantly extended their natural gas-powered fleet with this new order.
"We are proud to support their efforts towards decarbonizing transport – a commitment that we at Iveco share and has led us to pioneer natural gas technology for over 25 years.”
The LNG/CNG vehicles are 4x2 standard tractor units, powered by a natural gas engine from Iveco's 460 hp Cursor 13 series, compliant with Euro VI Step E emission standards.
Iveco's LNG-powered vehicles will come equipped with two 540-litre LNG tanks, fitted on either side of the vehicle, providing a total capacity of at least 390 kg of liquid bio-LNG.
Iveco says this should enable a 1,600 kilometre stint between LNG refuel stops, depending on the deployment scenario.
