Honeywell, UT Austin pursue low-cost CCS
Technology company Honeywell said December 15 it would work with The University of Texas at Austin to develop ways to lower the cost of carbon capture and storage (CCS) for power plants and heavy industries.
Honeywell said it will take advantage of advanced solvent technology development by scientists at UT Austin. CO2 is first absorbed into a solvent derived from ammonia, separated out and then compressed for either storage in geological formations or sent on for other end uses.
Honeywell said it viewed that technology as a highly efficient, low-cost option to control emissions from hard-to-abate sectors such as power, cement and steel.
“This point source CO2 removal technology can be retrofitted within existing plants or included as part of a new installation,” Honeywell explained.
